How the Recovery Café Model Works:
The Recovery Café is an alternative, therapeutic, supportive community of healing and belonging founded on the truth that every human being is precious and worthy of love regardless of their earlier trauma, mental and emotional anguish, or addictive behaviors. Recovery Cafes are membership-based, free and open to all.
Whether you are new to recovery or in long-term recovery, experiencing a crisis or struggling with a recurrence of use, in a mental health transition or going through a difficult life change, the Recovery Café is a place of support and stability for all individuals seeking to break the cycle of isolation.
The Recovery Cafe Network grew out of an increasing number of requests from local groups, nonprofit organizations and faith communities, for support and guidance to create a Recovery Cafe in their own community. Alabama's first Recovery Cafe, founded by the inspiring Recovery Den in Jasper/Walker County, is one of 79 local Recovery Cafes across the US. Each is founded by people in their own community, as a place for recovery, belonging and healing from the traumas and effects of trauma: homelessness, addiction and other mental health challenges, return from incarceration etc.
