The Recovery Organization of Support Specialists (ROSS) seeks to reach the people who fall through the cracks of addiction every day within our Alabama Communities, Jails, Hospitals, Day Reporting Centers, Treatment Centers and more.
Everyone at R.O.S.S. is a champion for Recovery whether they have lived experience with substance use disorder or are an ally of recovery. All of our recovery supportive services are free of charge.
Addiction is a disease, not a moral failing. Our stories of hope and recovery identify and connect with the individuals we serve. Our stories have so much power that President Joe Biden awarded us the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021!
We have 6 Recovery Community Center campuses located in Birmingham, Montgomery, Albertville, Gadsden, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa. Our campuses are safe spaces with support groups, life skills, peer support services, resources, recreational activities and more! Please call for hours of operation for our centers as hours may differ between facilities. Our peer specialists at our community centers are fighting the good fight.
Our statewide 24/7 Helpline at 844-307-1760 is a lifeline for individuals struggling with substance use disorder or a family member who doesn’t know where to turn. A caller receives contact information for recovery resources, someone to talk to who has been where they are, and connection to our R.O.S.S. Outreach Specialists.
Our Outreach Program started in Walker County in 2017, and we have grown from 1 county to 30 counties as we help individuals to navigate the substance use disorder system of care.
Our R.O.S.S. Outreach Specialists will stay with someone every step of the way through the process before and during treatment.
We have an Aftercare program with our Aftercare/Education Specialists who will be with that person for after they get out of treatment as we connect those individuals to whatever resources they are choosing for themselves to improve their quality of life. Aftercare also provides education to small entities such as churches, school boards, town council meetings, and clubs.
Our OD2A program provides education to correctional facilities and hospital staff along with Narcan training and Fentanyl test strip distribution for the community entities. Education provided by both Aftercare and OD2A programs includes substance use disorder, opioid use disorder, stigma, harm reduction, and overdose and preventing an overdose.
Our RCSP Program is a workforce development program where individuals learn different skills that help them to learn how to become Certified Peer Support Specialists which includes peer-led recovery classes, one-to-one recovery monitoring, recovery check-ups, and sober living activities. We are teaching the individuals we serve how to become employable.
SAFE Care assists pregnant & parenting women with recovery supports using plans of safe care for the safety & well-being of their infant & themselves. Our Special Women’s Program works with expectant mothers in Jefferson County who have substance use disorder or postpartum with children up to the age of 3
Our Road to Recovery Bureau of Justice Assistance Program advocates for individuals that are in jail so that they can receive treatment. We also work with the Alabama Bureau of Pardon’s & Paroles and help individuals who have been incarcerated find re-entry into their communities.
